Bridge Builder

7th grade Bridge Record = 22.64 kips

8th grade Bridge Record = 22.19 kips

This is a VRML picture of the Current record of 65.47 kips, in the new version 4.0 Bridge Builder
The span is 400 feet, instead of 100. To view this with your VRML browser click

These records from above are from the original Bridge Builder™ from Pre-Engineering Software Corporation. The original program is s great tool for problem solving and modeling. Students model their bridges and then try to build them from coffee stirrers, balsa wood, bass wood, and toothpicks.

This spring I recieved an upgrade to the much more sophisticated Bridge Builder 4.0. This piece of software is more detailed with its analysis of members, decking material, and the width and span of the bridge. It also includes the ability to create bridges and then create VRML files from them, so you can see your creation in 3-D! Totally Cool!!!!

If you have a VRML browser (or plug-in), click HERE to explore a 3-D (.wrl) model of a bridge.

Here is another 3-D model.

Looking for a Plug-in for Netscape to view the bridges?

Go to Live 3-d. At this location you must download the plug in for to view within your browser. If you want to download the bridge file and then view it in a stand alone program, just save the wrl file and view it with a vrml viewer, not the plug-in. Both programs require a PowerPC with quickdraw 3D installed(Mac), Windows go to Live 3-d(Win).
